Humble Beginnings for "Magnus."

Magnus began it's journey towards birth with the creation of it's stone base (see next page)  made to design from Brazilian "ubba tuba," during my visit to Brazil. Then came a slow process of refining the original in clay and wax.
Here you see the  newly cast bronze turning a honey gold color through the process of applying even heat until the desired hue is achieved. Too much heat at this stage turns the color purple! You can watch the process in this short video clip by clicking the "play arrow."

The patina is delicately sprayed on when the bronze is hot so that it bonds fully with the metal.
The high polish is achieved by running high-speed rotor-pads over the piece dipped in polishing paste.
After painting some areas of the piece completely black, I am sanding the paint back off in areas  to create bronze high-lights.
